Private Office vs Managed Office: What's the Difference?
Private offices and managed offices both give your team its own space. Here is how they differ in customisation, setup, management and fit.
Both a private office and a managed office give your team a space of its own. The difference is in how much of the office is designed around you, and who runs it.
What is a private office?
A private office is an enclosed, lockable office inside a building run by a workspace provider. Your team has its own room or suite and shares facilities such as reception, meeting rooms, the pantry and common areas with other businesses in the building. Private offices are usually available furnished, and sometimes unfurnished.
What is a managed office?
A managed office is a whole workplace set up for one company and run by the provider. It can be a floor, part of a floor or a standalone suite. The layout, cabins, meeting rooms, branding and IT are planned around your team, and the provider handles fit-out, facilities and day-to-day operations.
Side by side
| Private office | Managed office | |
|---|---|---|
| Space | An office inside a shared building | A dedicated workplace for your company |
| Customisation | Moderate: furniture and layout within the room | High: layout, cabins, branding, IT |
| Shared facilities | Reception, meeting rooms and pantry shared with others | Usually your own, sized for your team |
| Typical team size | Small to mid-size teams | Growing and larger teams |
| Who runs it | The provider runs the building | The provider runs your office for you |
| Time to move in | Often quick for ready offices | Longer if customised |
Which is right for you?
Choose a private office if you need privacy and a professional base quickly and are happy to share common facilities. Choose a managed office if you want an office that looks and works like your own, with your branding and layout, without managing a fit-out and facilities yourself.
If you're not sure, book a tour and see both kinds of office in person.
